How to become a contributor

First of all

Drop us a line to introduce yourself and your ideas and the type of work you want to do.

Send e-mail to response@var.org

If you have an idea for an article, feature, one-off web page or whatever, please send us an outline proposal.

If you already have some material, you would like to show us, please get in touch first to introduce yourself and discuss how you should send it.

Individual contributors

Individual contributors are welcome. Even if you don't have all the skills necessary to create a web page, or the inclination, if we like your work, we can make up web pages for you. For anyone wishing to learn how to make their own pages, we can offer a programme of training and guidance in all aspects of the work. It's one of our major aims to help those who are interested in 'rolling their own' learn the necessary skills. You can discuss your training needs with us when you get in touch.

If you are a writer, visual artist or whatever and would be interested in collaborating with other individuals who have complimentary skills, tell us so when you get in touch, we might be able to suggest somebody you can work with.

Group contributions

Groups interested in making a joint contribution are very welcome. We suggest you appoint a contact person to liaise with var's editors on your behalf. In the case of larger groups, or groups whose work var's editors feel they are not qualified to assess, we may ask the contact person to act as an 'advisory editor' to var.

If your group has gatherings or meetings, we may be able to come and give you a talk or demonstration.

Why publish in var?

If you already have your own web space and enough material to publish in it, why publish in var? - Well, it's another location on the web for your material, which could then be an advertisement for the other things you have already published.

Also, we hope that by collecting material from diverse contributors into one place will result in a richer site with broader appeal, and that means more visitors, bringing individual talents to a wider audience than they might attract alone.

We will consider linking to existing sites carrying similar content to that found in var, if the courtesy is reciprocated.

What are we looking for?

We want the var site to hold interesting, high quality material and to avoid having it become predictable. We are especially interested in ideas that treat the web page as a creative medium in its own right and work within its practical constraints while exploiting its unique character.

The best thing is to drop us a line explaining what you are interested in doing, and we'll let you know what we can and can't manage.
