This website presents selected work of Paula W Patterson, known principally but not exclusively for fine and thoughtful paintings and drawings of animals.

In addition to a "gallery" section, where a selection of finished works are presented, there is also the "Studio" section, constructed from visits to Paula's working environment and discussions with the artist.

It should work on Netscape / Explorer v2 and above, with any system, but has been designed for viewing with 800 by 600 monitor resolution or better, and the highest colour depth available to you.

Using the site:

The gallery section is presented visually, as a series of 5 'rooms'. Thumbnail versions of Paula's work can be seen on the 'walls', and these can be clicked to display a larger version of the image in a new browser window, which may be closed when you are done with it.

The gallery rooms can be navigated by clicking in the doorways, or by using the 5 numbered buttons located below the main image. There is also a link to Paula's CV and contact details from each room.

The studio section consists of seven pages which together present an impression of Paula's thought processes and working methods.

A note from the site author:

As a freelance digital designer, most of the websites I create are strictly commercial in nature, and in that sort of work it is the expression of the client's business identity that is the foremost consideration, so I'm usually trying to avoid making my own personality too visible in my designs.

Despite this habit, this site has turned out rather differently. While striving to create a sympathetic presentation of Paula and her work, I found myself inexorably drawn in to an expression of my own subjective response to the subject. Perhaps because Paula's work and attitudes are themselves 'subjective' rather than 'objective', a sympathetic presentation of them seemed to demand a response 'in kind'.

I am however extravagantly guilty of self indulgence in the design of the gallery section, with its 3d visualisation of a real gallery space, a metaphoric presentation that allows textual intrusion to be kept to a minimum. It is the realisation of an idea that's been simmering in my mind for some time, finally brought to the boil by the opportunity presented by this site.

I want to say that making this site for Paula was a very special pleasure, not only because her painstaking images are beautiful as a subject to work with but also because of the trust, enthusiasm and encouragement she gave me at all stages of its creation.
